Cranberry Citrus Compote Recipe


This cranberry recipe relies on very little sugar, as the fresh citrus fruit and apples additives naturally sweeten it.  You can make this recipe a few days before and chill in your refrigerator before serving.  

This cranberry citrus compote is delicious and nutritious. A 6oz serving of this compote is equivalent to three servings of fruit.

Things you’ll need:
  • 12 ounces fresh
  • cranberries
  • ½ cup of freshly brewed Lipton Green tea with passion fruit and Jasmine
  • ½ cut of Tropicana orange juice with pulp
  • 2 Ruby Red Grapefruits
  • 2 Tangerines
  • 3 Macintosh apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Chef knife
  • 2 tablespoons of Cointreau or other orange liqueur
  • Medium size saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Chopping board
  • Chef knife 
I like to increase my families intake of antioxidants so instead of cooking the fruit down in water I will cook in green with passion fruit and orange juice.  Brew a 1/2 cup of the green tea.

Let the tea seep for 4 minutes then pour the tea into the saucepan.  Then add the orange juice.  Set the saucepan on the burner and heat to simmer. While the liquid is heating up you would rinse the fresh cranberries with cold water.

Check the cranberries by removing any that are bruised. Add your cranberries to the pan and increase the heat to medium-high



Remove the skin from grapefruit, tangerines and apples. Remove the seeds before chopping.  Add this fruit to the saucepan.

Bring the compote to a boil, reduce heat to medium and cook for an additional 10 minutes.  Stir so that the fruit does not stick to the bottom of the pan.

Add the sugar and the Cointreau or other orange liqueur and stir.  Set the heat on simmer and cook 10 more minutes. Remove from the heat and cool before covering for refrigerate storage.

Cranberries contain antioxidants that are beneficial for overall health.  The phytonutrients are naturally derived from the plant and are beneficial for the treatment of urinary tract infection and will inhibit the bacteria found in gum disease, heart disease cancer and stomach ulcers.  Increasing your intake of cranberries will be a step in the right direction for preventing many diseases.
