Haunted Highway Autumn Rituals: Missouri’s Spookiest Road Trip

As Halloween creeps closer and the leaves begin to fall, some of us crave more than pumpkin patches and cozy sweaters. If your idea of an autumn activity includes haunted towns, ghostly dwellings, shadowed roadways, and forest trails thick with legend this Missouri road trip is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

But be warned: this route isn’t for the timid. It’s for the ones who seek out paranormal whispers, who document the eerie and the unexplained, who treat every foggy detour as a story waiting to be told. So, if you’re ready to chase ghosts, honor forgotten histories, and feel the chill of something watching pack your bag, grab your gear, and head into the heart of Missouri for the spookiest road trip of the season.

If you’re one of my followers who lives for spooky rituals, haunted lore, and crisp autumn air thick with mystery this road trip is exactly what you’ve been craving. Missouri’s haunted highway isn’t just a scenic drive. It’s a descent into ghost stories, forgotten tragedies, and places that remember.

Let’s begin.

As the leaves crisp and the air turns sharp, Missouri reveals its shadowed corners. This isn’t just a scenic drive its a reckoning. A haunted road trip through the heart of the Midwest, where history lingers and the veil thins. Whether you’re chasing ghost stories or documenting the emotional residue of place, these stops offer more than fright they offer voice.

1. Jesse James Farm & Museum (Kearney)

Outlaw folklore meets family tragedy. Visitors report flickering lights and phantom footsteps echoes of Jesse’s unfinished legacy. A must-stop for those who document myth and memory.

 2. Belvoir Winery (Liberty)

Once an Odd Fellows Home, now a winery steeped in spectral lore. Ghost tours wind through the old infirmary and orphanage. The wine is good. The energy? Unsettling.

 3. Vaile Mansion (Independence)

Victorian grandeur with a tragic twist. Sylvia Vaile’s story buried in a glass coffin, they say haunts the halls. Perfect for those who pair architectural decay with emotional resonance.

 4. Hotel Bothwell (Sedalia)

Third-floor mysteries abound. Disappearing items, disembodied voices, and a lingering sense of being watched. Stay overnight if you dare or document from the lobby.

5. Missouri State Penitentiary (Jefferson City)

“The Bloodiest 47 Acres in America.” This decommissioned prison offers guided ghost tours and raw emotional terrain. Ideal for advocacy bloggers exploring justice and trauma.

 6. Zombie Road (Wildwood)

A forested trail with legends of shadow people and ghostly watchers. Best walked at dusk, with camera in hand and ritual in heart. Not for the faint of spirit.

7. Lemp Mansion (St. Louis)

A dynasty undone by suicide and scandal. The Lemp family’s brewing empire collapsed and their home remains one of the most haunted in America. Sunday brunch is served with a side of sorrow.

 8. Pythian Castle (Springfield)

Built by the Knights of Pythias, later used by the military. Ghost sightings, cold spots, and a ballroom that hums with memory. A visual feast for product mockups and seasonal cards.

 9. Union Station (Kansas City)

Site of the 1933 Kansas City Massacre. The architecture is stunning, the energy heavy. Document the contrast beauty and blood, history and haunting.

This autumn, let your road trip be more than a thrill let it be a reckoning. Missouri remembers. Will you?

Harvest Magic & Handmade Purpose: Why These Afridrilles Matter

Crafted with care, styled for the autumn season, and rooted in ethical impact.

These Afridrilles aren’t just stylish they’re stitched with soul. Handmade in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, each pair is crafted by the Maker Mums, a collective of empowered African women who’ve transformed their lives through artistry and entrepreneurship. Many of these women are mothers of children with special needs, and through Ubuntu Life, they’ve found community, purpose, and economic independence.

The Afridrille journey began with a dream: to create Africa’s first fully customizable espadrille. Inspired by traditional East African cotton and the Spanish espadrille silhouette, the Ubuntu team partnered with Zazzle to bring this vision to life. The result? A shoe that’s breathable, durable, and deeply meaningful.

 Why We Love This Design

The Vintage Halloween Pattern on Gray Canvas brings playful nostalgia to every step. With black cats, crescent moons, bats, and spiderwebs dancing across a soft gray backdrop, these Afridrilles are perfect for pumpkin patch strolls, cozy porch hangs, and spirited October adventures. The design feels both whimsical and timeless pair it with a flowy skirt, a chunky knit, or even your favorite costume for a look that’s festive without being fussy.

Each shoe features: 100% East African cotton Hand-screened canvas Natural jute soles A beaded tab crafted by Maasai women near Kenya’s Ngong Hills

 Wear What Matters

When you wear Afridrilles, you’re not just stepping into comfort you’re stepping into a movement. Every purchase supports full-time employment, healthcare, and education for the Maker Mums and their families. It’s fashion with heart, and it’s changing lives one stitch at a time.

Cute and Comfortable Halloween Outfit Idea

When it comes to dressing for Halloween I would prefer to not wear a costume.  I like to wear a cute, casual, and comfortable outfit to parties, and for taking the kids out for Trick or Treat.  Here is a cute, comfortable Halloween outfit.

When you dress in a Halloween-created t-shirt and leggings then all you need to add is your shoes, accessories, theatrical makeup, and maybe spooky hair with plastic spiders and cobwebs?

I created at my Zazzle store a darling Halloween T-shirt that could be worn with matching compression leggings.

I like the cut of the tee because it is not form-fitting and the fabric feels like silk.  The design was created from illustrations that I had cut out before I did a handset to create the classic Halloween ghost design.

The black leggings are so comfortable, you will never feel restricted in them, as movement is easy and they do not bag out at the knees like other leggings.   I have several pairs and love them. They are so comfortable that you can sleep in them.

If you are a Halloween lover then buy this darling outfit and wear it throughout the season and you will look fabulous.

Halloween Graveyard Wall Decal Review

Decorating your home for Halloween is easy when you hang a decal on your wall. While shopping online today at Walmart.com I found a spooky Halloween decal that would look fantastic in my office or in my family room.

I liked that it was large and that it would take up most of the wall. Then all I would need to do is add a few decorations on my table, throw pillows for chairs, and a pumpkin or two.  Before ordering the Halloween wall decoration I did read the customer's reviews and learned that the bats were individually cut from cardboard and that the tree and graveyard of the decal were one piece of lightweight vinyl.

All of the reviewers said that they had to tape the decals to the wall and I thought I would use two-sided gorilla tape so that the pieces would stay on the wall.

As you can see the room set that I created the decal looks great. If you are seeking easy Halloween decorations for your home then I would recommend this decal.

Neighborhood Halloween Decorating Contest

My husband is one to compete with our neighborhood for the BEST decorated Halloween house and today he came home from shopping and said that he saw Halloween products on the shelves at Hobby Lobby. This of course made him think that we should start planning for October festivities. I like the Halloween season also but think we need to enjoy the summer season and NOT start getting ready for Halloween.
Photograph of Decorated house for Halloween

In the past, Husband would start getting ready in August and I was okay with this since his projects were self-contained; in the garage and not on display in the yard...BUT June no way will I agree with him that it is time to get ready for the Halloween season.

Know that our neighborhood has an annual contest for the best-decorated yard for Halloween and every year my husband tries to win. He has been competing since 2007 but thus far has not won anything but has made kids smile and that means more than a prize plaque for the lawn

When getting ready for Halloween we make our yard decorations and buy pumpkins and corn stalks but this year husband has added inflatables; Halloween props and scenery to our yard. I think the kids will really like it and that the lighted props will make our  home at the bottom of the hill more noticeable to trick or treaters in the neighborhood.
